 Guidelines to form a frequency table from the given raw data Determine the minimum and the maximum value of the variate Decide upon the number of classes to be formed. Its usually in the range of 5 - 15 Determine the class interval. We divide the difference between the maximum and the minimum value by the no of class intervals to be formed. We take each item from the data one at a time and put a tally mark (\) against the class to which it belongs. For the sake of convenience, we record the tally marks in bunches of 5, the fifth one crossing the other four diagonally. We determine the total number of tally marks in each class which gives us the frequency of that class interval. Example: The maximum temperatures (in degrees Celsius ) and the relative humidity ( in percent ) for London for the month of July of a particular year, reported by the Meteorological Department are given below. Maximum temperatures (in degrees Celsius ) 32.5, 30.3, 33.8, 31.0, 28.6, 33.9, 33.3, 32.4, 30.4, 32.6, 34.7, 34.9, 31.6, 35.2, 35.3, 35.5, 36.4, 36.6, 37.0, 34.3, 32.5, 31.4, 34.4, 35.6, 37.3, 37.5, 36.9, 37.0, 36.3, 36.9, 36.7 Relative humidity ( in percent ) 90,97,92,95,93,95,93,85,83,85,83,77,83,77,74,60,71,65,74,80,87,82,81,76,61,63,58,58,56,57,54 A frequency table for each is constructed.
