|If we place two number lines at right angles, intersecting at their origins, we obtain a two-dimensional rectangular coordinate system. It is also called Cartesian coordinate system. The number lines intersect at the origin. The horizontal line is called the x-axis.
The vertical line is called the y-axis. |
The plane into which the coordinates system is introduced is the coordinate plane or xy-plane. The x-axis and y-axis divide the plane into four region, or quadrants. The points on the x-axis or y-axis belong to no quadrant.
Directions: Choose the correct answer. Also take a graph paper and draw 4 quadrants and plot 30 points in all the four quadrants.
