3.9 Money Word Problems

Method:

  1. Read the question carefully.
  2. Count the number of quarters, dimes, nickles
  3. Add or subtract as per the question.

Example:
I have $45.50, I spend 50 cents. How much money do I have left?

100 cents = 1 dollar
Hence $45.50 = 45.50 * 100 cents
We subtract 50 cents that is spent
4550 - 50 = 4500 cents
Answer: $45
