Method:

  1. Add or subtract the currencies as per the question.
  2. Note that the currencies must be same.
  3. If the currencies are different:
    • Convert to the same currencies
    • Perform addition or subtraction

Example 1:
$3 + 45 cents = _____ cents
We convert $3 to cents.
$3 = 300 cents
300 + 45 = 345
Answer: 345

Example 2:
$0.55 + $0.45 = $_____
0.55 + 0.45 = 1.00
Answer: 1.00

Example 3:
$0.55 + $0.45 = _____cents
0.55 + 0.45 = 1.00
$1.00 = 100 cents
Answer: 100
