Grade 3 - Mathematics 9.9 Expanded Form - Numbers to 10000
Method:
Start from the right most digit.
Going from right to left, the place values of the digits are ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, and ten thousands.
To write the expanded form of a number we multiply each digit of the number by the place value of the digit.
Example: Expand 97, 535?

9 is in ten thousands place, 7 is in thousands place, 5 is in hundreds place, 3 is in tens place and 5 is in ones place. Answer: 9 x 10,000 + 7 x 1000 + 5 x 100 + 3 x 10 + 5 x 1
