7.1 What is Multiplication?

Explanation:

  1. Multiplication is repeated addition.
  2. Instead of adding many times, we just multiply the number by the number of times it appears.


Here we can add 2 five times: 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 +2 = 10
You could also say 5 rows of two
Or you can write that as a multiplication problem


The numbers that are multiplied 5 and 2 are called factors and 10 is called the product.

Example: 3+3+3+3

This can be written as 3 x 4
In the above 3 and 4 are called factors and 12 is called the product.
Answer : 12
