7.4 Recognizing the Type of a Triangle

Polygons that have three corners or vertices and three sides or edges which are straight line segments are called Triangles.

Triangles can be classified as:

  1. Equilateral Triangle: A triangles in which all the 3 sides are equal.
  2. Isosceles Triangle: A triangle in which 2 sides are equal.
  3. Scalene Triangle: A triangle in which no side is equal.
  4. Equiangular Triangle: A triangle in which all angles are equal.
  5. Acute angle Triangle: A triangle in which all angles are acute.
  6. Obtuse angle Triangle: A triangle in which one angle is an obtuse angle.
  7. Right angle Triangle: A triangle in which one angle is 90 degrees.
  8. Oblique Triangle: A triangle has only angles that are smaller or larger than 90°. It is therefore any triangle that is not a right triangle.

Directions: Answer the following. Draw all the above kinds of triangles and show all the properties.
