Grade 2 - English Language
3.8 Nouns and Predicates

A predicate always contains at least one verb, but it may also contain nouns. A noun is called a "predicate noun" if it follows a form of the "be" verb, and it renames the subject of the sentence.

In the following sentences, the predicates are in italics and the nouns in the predicates are underlined.

I bought a new book.

Anna came to school on time.

Directions: From a book you read recently, find at least five sentences and write them below. Underline the predicates in those sentences and then circle the nouns that are part of the predicates.
