Rules for using commas in friendly letters:
  1. A comma is used between the city and state (or province) in the heading.
    Examples:
    Detroit, Michigan
    Dallas, Texas
    Halifax, Nova Scotia

  2. A comma is placed between the day and the year in the heading.
    Examples:
    January 6,2004
    July 7, 2003

  3. A comma is used after the last word in the greeting.
    Examples:
    Dear Bob,
    My dearest sister,

  4. A comma is also placed after the last word in the closing.
    Examples:
    Sincerely,
    Your best friend,
    Truly yours,
