4.13 Writing an Acrostic Poem

An acrostic poem is one where you choose a word or name (like the name of a character in a book) and use each letter in the name as the beginning of a word or line that tells something about that person or character.

To write an acrostic poem about someone, make a list of all the things you know about that person: his or her likes, dislikes, abilities, fears, and so on. Then think of a setting (like school, library, home, etc.) where the person appears. Then write something interesting for each letter of his or her name.

For example, here is an acrostic poem about a girl named Anna:

Always smiling
Nicely dressed
Nine year old girl
Art champion

Directions: Write an acrostic poem about yourself and about one of your friends!
