A number that satisfies an equation is called a solution or a root of the equation.

Example: Find the root of the equation: x + 6 = 8.
Solution:
x + 6 = 6
x = 8 - 6
x = 2
Since substituting x=2 satisfies the equation x+6=8, the root of the equation is 2.
