Questions Per Quiz = 2 4 6 8 10

Grade 7 - Mathematics
3.9 Find x Value - II

Example: 4x-1 = 2x+6, find the x value?
Solution: Make the bases equal so that we can equate exponents.
Now 4x-1 = (22)x-1 = 22(x-1) = 22x-2.
Therefore 22x-2 = 22x+6
As the bases are equal, the exponents must be equal.
That is 2x-2 = x+6
2x-x = 6+2
Therefore x = 8.

Directions: Solve the following problems. Also write at least ten examples of your own.
Q 1: 3x+2 = 32x, find the x value?
