Solution: Break each monomials into the simplest numerical and literal factors.
12a2b2 = 2 * 2 * 3 * a * a * b * b
16a3b2 = 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * a * a * a * b * b
24a4b3c2 = 2 * 2 * 2 * 3 * a * a * a * a *  b * b * b * c * c
Highest numerical factor that divides each monomial = 2 * 2 = 4
Highest literal factor that divides each monomial = a * a * b * b  = a2 * b2
