Converting a decimal to a fraction (rational number):

Method:

  1. Count the number of digits after the decimal point.
  2. Write the number given without the decimal in the numerator.
  3. Write number one in the denominator followed by, as many zeros as the number of digits after the decimal point, to the right side of the number one.
  4. Simplify or reduce the fraction to lowest term.
Example:
Express 0.5 in the form of rational number (p/q).
Solution:
There is one digit after decimal, the numerator is 5.
The denominator is 10.
5/10 = 1/2.
Therefore, 0.5 = 1/2
