An adverb tells how something is done, like slowly, quickly, or well. An adverb describes a verb or an adjective. Remember that an adjective describes a noun or a pronoun.

Examples:
The boy ran very fast. ('fast' is an adjective and 'very' describes it)
He spoke loudly. ('spoke' is a verb and 'loudly' describes it)
