 Method: To add or subtract fractions with different/unlike denominators, you must first make the denominators common. Denominators are made common by finding the LCM. Performthe required operation on like fractions so obtained. Example: 1/2 - 1/6 Find LCM of 2 and 6 which is 6. Multiply and divide each fraction by the LCM. 1/2 * 6/6 = 3/6 1/6 * 6/6 = 1/6 3/6 - 1/6 = 2/6 Answer: 2/6 Example: 1/2 + 1/5 Find LCM of 2 and 5 which is 10. Multiply and divide each fraction by the LCM. 1/2 * 10/10 = 5/10 1/5 * 10/10 = 2/10 5/10 + 2/10 = 7/10 Answer: 7/10 Directions: Add/subtract the following fractions.
